Next, select the gear icon in the top-right of the screen to take you to the settings menu. If you’re on the web, you’ll need to click on your avatar and then choose “Settings”. Try changing the temperature, arming your security system, activating your camera, or verifying whichever Nest product you’ve added. If all you want to do is use Harmony to turn your TV on or off, install the IFTTT app on your smartphone.
Nearly a year later, virtually nothing has changed on that front either. When you’re done, select “Complete migration” to move your Nest account to Google. Remember, after you click this button, there is no reversing the process. Now, choose which Google account you wish to migrate your Nest account to.

However, when I first set up the Wi-Fi Pro system, I was seeing results of around 100 Mbps down, both in the app and when using third-party speed test sites. I can roam throughout the house, streaming a video or playing a game on my Steam Deck, and as the access points hand off my device, I don’t see any lag or sluggish performance. I suggest setting up all of the access points in the same room and then moving them after everything is connected and up and running. Of course, the current Public Preview is meant to be an extension of the Google Home app on mobile, where all of the really important options exist. Most of the options available in the old Nest website can be found in the mobile version of the Google Home app now.

Use Google Assistant Commands on Your TV
There aren’t many downsides to connecting your Sonos speakers, as they provide better audio quality than most speakers at that price and can control your smart home. The one main downside is that Google and Sonos will not let you group Sonos speakers with Nest speakers. As a result, you can either play music on your Sonos device or any Nest device but not both simultaneously. Unfortunately, they are competing multiroom systems, and this likely won’t change anytime soon. Even though Google and Sonos went through litigation battles in the past, you’re still able to connect your Sonos voice-enabled speakers to Google’s smart display. Of course, as always, the first thing you’ll want to do is make sure all your apps are up to date.
After you enter the verification code, you’ll see a list of features you can control from the Google Home speaker. This will take you to a menu showing all the devices connected to your Google Home, organized by room. Google Home and Nest both connect to IFTTT, so use the service to create your own voice commands, as well. In the upper-right corner of the screen, tap your profile picture to open the main menu, then scroll down and select Home control.

These commands include saying, “Hey Google, play music,” “... ” With this Google integration, you’re also able to use other commands to control your smart home, get answers to questions, or manage your schedule. You’ll have to approve product permission and choose the room location of the speaker. After that, you’ll choose if you want the chime to be on when you say, “Hey, Google.” Lastly, pick the music services to be added to the system and your default music service.
Seriously, these access points will look great on any shelf or TV stand. And that’s not a bad thing — hiding your Wi-Fi access points in a cabinet or on the bottom shelf of your TV stand does nothing but hurt your network’s performance. I’ve been testing Nest Wi-Fi Pro for a few weeks now, and it’s clear to me that it’s one of the better Wi-Fi 6E systems on the market, but not quite the best. The steps below link the "OK Google, turn on/off the TV" commands to your Google Home and a compatible Harmony Remote control system. If your TV also has HDMI-CEC and that feature is enabled (check your TV's HDMI settings), you can use Google Home to tell your Chromecast to turn the TV on or off. Your Google Home can also switch to the HDMI input the Chromecast is connected to on your TV when you send a voice command to start playing content. Now that everything is set up, you can control the speakers with your typical Google commands.
Nest products like Nest Cameras and the Nest Doorbell are surprisingly easy to pair with your Google Home smart home devices. Google told us last August that it was “working on bringing the full functionality” of older Nest products to the Home app. Rather, users with old Nest devices and new are required to leave both apps installed, and use them interchangably to get things done. Make sure your mobile device or tablet is connected to the same Wi-Fi or linked to the same accountas your Chromecast, or speaker or display.
It’s going to take some time to clean up this branding mess. Eventually, the old Nest products will be replaced by newer models with Google logos. If you look past the names, these products are still clearly in two different bins. All you have to do is look at the logos on the devices. They might be sold in the same section of the Google Store, but some sport the Nest logo, while others have Google’s.
Beyond what cameras are compatible, the older site was also much more full-featured compared to the newer Google Home web app. The site allowed for live view of cameras, but also the ability to view history, download clips, and change settings. Further, the site also held controls over other Nest products including your thermostat, locks, sensors, and security. You cannot use Google Home voice commands to watch content from apps not supported by Google. To view content from any additional desired apps, they must be sent to the Chromecast using your smartphone.
They look more like a smart speaker, or maybe even a smart clock. There’s a glossy finish to the plastic exterior, which comes in four different colors. Any of Eero’s Wi-Fi 6 systems, and now the Nest Wi-Fi Pro, are the only systems where I’ve never heard a word from my kids about their gaming experience. In fact, I didn’t even tell them that I changed our mesh system, just to make sure there wasn’t some sort of placebo effect at play. Each Nest Wi-Fi Pro access point is powerful enough to handle up to 100 devices and blanket 2,200 square feet in Wi-Fi 6E.
Google’s Nest Wi-Fi Pro system is easy to set up and use, and offers reliable network performance. On top of all that, its coverage is as good as it gets. Both ports on the Nest Wi-Fi Pro are limited to just 1 Gbps speeds. That means your network speeds are limited to 1 Gbps, even if you pay for faster service like I do. That said, I’m still not able to get the same type of wireless speed test results that I can when using the Eero Pro 6E system.
While I do want my older Nest products to work in the same app as the new one, there are some obvious security and functional bits that would take time to get right with that process. The old Nest cameras work in both the Nest app and the Google Home app, but their functionality is incredibly limited in the latter. There’s no support for viewing history – not that I’d want to use that in the Home app over the Nest app anyway – and there are still no notifications.
